| At Condor Test Weights we’re always happy to share our specialist knowledge of crane test weights and crane testing. If you need help with Cane Test Weight Hire and other testing issues browse our FAQ for advice. How Do I Work Out How Much Weight I Need to Test My Crane? You should always test your crane using 125% of the working load limit, (also known as safe working load). For example, a 10 tonne s.w.l. crane should have a proof load of 12.5 tonnes applied. What Type of Test Weights Should I Use With My Lifting Device? The type will depend on a variety of conditions including the proof load needed and restrictions in headroom and handling. For example if you need 20 tonnes of weights but only have a 2 tonne fork truck to off load with, then you couldn’t use 4 off 5 tonne slab weights. There are also some weight tests that have to be “man handled”, for example in office blocks and on roofs. In these cases, we offer 20kgs hand weights and weight cradles, which can be easily carried by hand to the testing point. Can You Test the Crane for Me? Of course! We can create a bespoke test package, unique to your requirements. Our fully qualified engineers will attend your site and report to the nominated contact to discuss all aspects of the test. We will go through any special requirements, such as cordoning off areas, and “clean” areas will be clearly marked before work commences. All relevant certificates will be issued when satisfactory tests have been completed. If the item fails the tests, a full report will be left with the nominated contact. Our engineers will happily demonstrate the reasons for failure while the weights are still on site if the client wants to see this. Find out more about our crane load testing services. Our experienced staff will advise you of all statutory regulations and any legal requirements to keep your records up to date and equipment safe to use. Read our guide to legal requirements to find out what you need to know. What Safety Documents Do I Need? For the majority of lifting equipment, you need to have a current test certificate, or certificate of conformity. Your insurance company will also do 6 monthly or annual inspections on your lifting gear. These inspections will highlight any defects or repairs required to keep your lifting equipment in service. Some companies operate a colour coding system, so all users know that the equipment they are using has been inspected at the specified time scale. Can You Offer Me One to One Advice? Yes! We can discuss your requirements on the telephone, by e mail, or come to your site to talk face to face and see the conditions your equipment is used in. Just give us a call and we will talk through all the options available. We will create a test package designed to suit you and the environment your equipment is used in. |
